Dear Friends:

If you’ve been to our website lately, you will have seen an important change.

We now have a direct link to CanadaHelps, the non-profit that makes giving to non-profits incredibly easy.

They receive your gift, and send you a federal tax receipt in the name of the Community Arts Council of Vancouver, our legal sponsor.

I mention this because we are busy raising money for the extraordinary chamber opera, ‘The Emperor of Atlantis’, written at Theresienstadt in 1944 by Viktor Ullmann and Petr Kien, both of whom were killed by the Nazis in reply.

We are doing this amazing piece as a co-pro with the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre, and opening at the Norman Rothstein Theatre on 1 February 2009. It’s a BC premiere, and we need your help.

Could you consider us? If so, doing so just got easier…

Meantime, City Opera is doing its next DTES recital at Pigeon Park, 5 to 6pm, this Sunday 24 August. Melanie Kreuger, soprano, and Michael Onwood, piano. It’s part of our on-going commitment to music in Canada’s most challenging neighbourhood, and free. Hope to see you there!

Thanks,

Dr Charles Barber
