Voices from USA and across BC to join Carmina sing-along

City Opera Vancouver is pleased to announce that singers from Washington State and Prince George will be joining hundreds of singers from Metro Vancouver for Canada’s first ‘Singalong Carmina Burana’.

“We are delighted to welcome members of the Prince George Cantata Singers. They will travel some 775 km (465 miles) one-way to join us,” said Nora Kelly, President of City Opera.

Why are they coming from Prince George to sing Carmina Burana in Vancouver? According to chorus member Evelyn Lee, “it was such an amazing experience, and you don't get many chances to sing it here. We want to sing it with City Opera.”

Another group is coming from Washington State, the San Juan Singers at Friday Harbor on San Juan Island. Their manager Angel Michaels inquired in an e-mail: “I represent a 40-50 voice community chorus on San Juan Island, Washington. We just found out about the CB Sing-a-long. Can we come?”.

Added Kelly, “thanks to Accent Inns of British Columbia, our out-of-town guests are being given accommodation at a very friendly rate. We appreciate Accent Inns' support very much. They have also donated a major Gift Certificate which will be awarded soon after the concert itself.”

The concert is being held at 8pm, Friday 26 October 2007, at St-Andrew’s-Wesley Church, at Burrard at Nelson streets in downtown Vancouver.

City Opera artists for 'Carmina Burana' include Phoebe MacRae, William George, Andrew Greenwood, Jason Sherbundy, Kenneth Broadway and Sal Ferreras.

All seats are $20. Music will be available at the door.

The concert is a benefit for City Opera Vancouver, a chamber opera company which will be resident at the restored Pantages Theatre.
