Sing-Along Carmina Burana, October 26
We're delighted to announce that some very talented musicians have confirmed their participation in our upcoming Carmina Burana concert:
- Soprano: Phoebe MacRae
- Tenor: William George
- Baritone: Andrew Greenwood
- Pianists: Jason Sherbundy and Kenneth Broadway
- Percussionists: Sal Ferreras and friends

There's been a surge in activity since Labour Day. We've done an e-invitation to some 200 choruses in Metro Vancouver – twice. We're following that up with personal calls to all 200, and want to make sure that we've left no one out.

Proceeds from Canada's first Singalong Carmina Burana will support the start-up phase of the company, especially in our work in the Downtown Eastside.

The first two photos show one of Canada's greatest singers in a private performance of two extraordinary arias, both given at the Canadian Music Centre on Davie Street. The third shows the final meeting of a Jury comprising our professional advisors. Stay tuned.
Pantages Theatre
This dazzler is located at 150 East Hastings, in the heart of Vancouver's Downtown Eastside - our first entertainment district.

You may remember it as the City Lights theatre back in the 70s. It's been closed for 15 years, and off the radar for a long time.
City Opera Vancouver will be one of three companies resident at this 650-seat theatre, once fully restored. It has a superb acoustic. Our recent performing guests include soprano Diana Oros-Wilder, pianist Michael Onwood, trombonists Jeremy Berkman and Sharman King, and violinist Mark Fewer. All have helped us test the acoustics. All confirm that they just may be the finest in Vancouver. You will soon be able to judge for yourselves.
Sunday 6 January 2008 is the 100th anniversary of the opening of this original vaudeville theatre, now the oldest surviving in Western Canada. Please mark that afternoon on your calendar. You'll be getting an invitation to hear something wonderful.
Finally…
We look forward to seeing you on October 26. This Carmina Burana promises to be one of the most memorable evenings of music-making in a long time, and unlike anything any one has ever done before.
In this way, it will be much the identity of City Opera itself: worthy music, wonderful performers, unusual opportunity, and a great audience.
